Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework for improving and integrating all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. (see chart)
The Ohio Department of Education states they are committed to providing safe and supportive schools to all students through the implementation of whole-child supports. Research demonstrates that students do better academically, socially and behaviorally when supports are provided for the whole child within a school setting. The use of restraint and seclusion in schools negatively impacts a student’s outcome for optimal social and emotional learning. For that reason, the Department’s efforts to support the whole child include a focus on eliminating the use of restraint and seclusion.
